Delhi University (UOD) is going to commence shortly the admission process for academic session 2019-20 in M.Phil and Ph.D course. The admisison process will be started in the mid or end of April 2019 (Expectedly).
ADMISSION TO M.Phil/ Ph.D PROGRAMME (2019-2020 )
Admission to M.Phil./Ph.D. programme will be based on written examination, followed by an interview. Applicants seeking admission in M.Phil/ Ph.D. programmes shall go through ―Section C (Procedure for Admission)” of Ordinance VI-B [see Annexure] to check if they are exempted from appearing in the written examination. However, Interview is mandatory for all applicants.

The number of vacant seats for the Ph.D. admission in various sub-disciplines of a Department shall be decided in advance and notified on the University website/in the advertisement. The Head of the Department shall consult the faculty members regarding the number of vacant seats available with each in that academic year. Each prospective Supervisor may decide on the number of seats that he/she may like to fill in a particular year within his maximum permissible strength and inform the Head of Department accordingly.
The number of students to be admitted to the Ph.D. programme shall not exceed the predetermined maximum number for the Department
University of Delhi Ph.D Entrance 2019 Application form:
All the candidates seeking admission to the M.Phil./ Ph.D. courses shall required to register online. On-Line Registration Fee for Admission to Ph.D Courses (2019 -2020)
- Registration fee for SC/ST/PwD : Rs. 250/- for each course
- Registration fee for all other Categories (Unreserved, OBC etc.) : Rs. 500/- for each course
Note: Registration Fee is Non-Refundable
DU Ph.D/ MPhil Eligibility Criteria:
The eligibility criteria for admission is minimum 55% marks in Master’s degree/M.Phil./M.Tech./LL.M./M.D./M.S. Degree in the same or allied subject from a recognized University with 5% relaxation for OBC/SC/ST and Persons with Disability. The allied subjects for admission to Ph.D. in a particular Department shall be decided by the DRC of that respective Department.
No Candidate shall be eligible to register for the Ph.D. programme if he/she is already registered for any full time programme of study in any University/Institution.
Foreign nationals may be registered in a Department in a year over and above the maximum admissible strength provided they fulfill the eligibility criteria. However, at any given time, the total number of foreign students should not exceed 10% of the total admissible strength. Foreign nationals must provide evidence of language competence suited to the Department they wish to join
Centres for the Written Examination-
- Written examination shall be conducted at the Centres located in the following cities: 12 Cities across the India.
DU Ph.D Entrance Examination 2019 Scheme/ Syllabus
There shall be separate written examination for M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes. However, certain Departments have a common written examination for both M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes. If a candidate wishes to apply in both the Programmes offered by these Departments, then also the candidate shall fill separate registration form for each of the two Programme.
- The duration of written examination shall be two hours. The question paper shall be of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) type.
- The Admit Card for the written examination shall be available in your online registration account.
Admit Card‘s download link shall be available after (closing date of online registration). Please visit the M.Phil./Ph.D. admission portal for news and updates related with the Admit Card and on the admission procedures.
Entrance Test Syllabus:
The Course wise Ph.D/ M.Phil Entrance Examination syllabus for the entrance test shall be available on the website of the University/Department. The entrance tests in various Departments within the Faculty shall be staggered to allow the candidates to appear in more than one written test if they so desire.
The entrance test shall be conducted once in a year and the eligibility of shortlisted candidates shall remain valid till the next entrance test is held or for one year, whichever is earlier. The interviews may be held twice in a year (in July and December), or more times in a year subject to availability of seats as determined by the DRC.
At the time of interview, if required, experts from allied/specialized areas may be invited. The candidates shall present and discuss their research interest/area at the time of interview.
The admission to the programme is through a written test, which results in the shortlisting of the candidates for the interview. It may be noted that certain Departments may have mode of evaluation other than Interview. Candidate may refer to the Departmental website or contact the Department (Section 8) directly for the details
