Indian Air Force Group- X & Group Y Recruitment- The Indian Air Force Recruitment cell invites the Application forms from the Indian Citizens for Recruitment in Indian Air Force AIRMAN wing (Group-X for Technical) and (Group-Y for Non-Technical). IAF Air Force Group X/Y 2019 Application Form

Application will be filled ONLINE by the candidates and detailed instructions to fill up the same are available at In a single ONLINE application, a candidate can opt for either Group – X or Group – Y or both Groups X & Y. The online applications are invited from 02nd Jan 2019 and application ends on 21st Jan 2019.

Examination for both Groups X and Y shall be held in one sitting.

Educational Qualification:

IAF X Group: Intermediate/ 10+2/ Equivalent examination from Education Board recognized by COBSE (OR) 03 years Diploma Course in Engineering from a Government recognized Polytechnic Institute.

Group ‘Y’ (Non-Technical) {Except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician} Trades: Passed Intermediate / 10+2 / Equivalent Examination in any stream/subjects approved by Central / State Education Boards with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.

For Group ‘Y’ (Non-Technical) Medical Assistant Trade: Passed 10+2/ Intermediate / equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English.

Indian Air Force Group X & Y Selection Process: 2019

Advertisements are published in Employment News/ Rozgar Samachar inviting the application for Scheduled Testing. Eligible unmarried male Indian Citizens (including the citizens of Nepal) are to register their names in the Indian Air Force website and log in with their registered email id for filling up of online applications.

Further, the printout of the online applications along with other testimonials are for be forwarded to the President. Central Airmen Selection Board, Post Box No. 11807, New Delhi – 110010. The Board sends admit cards to eligible and short listed candidates to appear in the Scheduled Tests.

Educational Certificates / Mark Sheets and other required documents (NCC A, B or C Certificate/Son of Air Force Personnel Certificate (SOAFP) etc.) will be scrutinized and verified at the examination venue prior to commencement of Written Test to ascertain the prima-facia eligibility. Detailed verification of said documents will be carried out later on in respect of candidates who pass Written Test, Adaptability Tests and PFT. Candidature of those who do not meet the laid down educational criteria is liable to be rejected anytime even after qualifying in Written Test, AT-I, PFT and AT-II on detailed verification of original documents.

IAF Air Force Group X & Y Examination Scheme/ Syllabus 2019

Written test will be of objective type and question paper will be bilingual (English and Hindi) except for English paper. Written Test will be based on CBSE class X / XII syllabus as per Education Qualification criteria (except for Group X (Education Instructor) trade). Candidates will have to pass each paper/subject separately.

(a) Group X (Technical) & Group Y (Non-Technical) – Duration of the written test for Group X (Technical) is 60 minutes and comprises of Physics, Mathematics and English. For Group Y (Non-Technical) the duration is 45 minutes for English and RAGA (Reasoning & General Awareness). For Group X & Y combined testing duration would be of 85 minutes comprising of Physics, Mathematics, English and RAGA.

(b) Group Y (IAF/S) – For Group Y (IAF/S) trades written test would be the same as for Group Y (Non-Technical). However the same would be conducted for candidates who are qualified in PFT for Group Y (IAF/S) trades.

(c) Group Y (Musician) – For Group Y (Musician) trades written test for English with a duration of 30 minutes would be conducted for those candidates who have successfully qualified in the proficiency test to play the musical instrument applied for.

(d) Group X (Education Instructor) – There will be two papers viz., Objective type and a Descriptive type. The Objective type paper would cover General English, General Awareness and Current Affairs. The Descriptive paper would aim to test the language comprehension and power of expression. Both the question papers will be administered in one go with duration 30 and 45 min respectively.


Phase – I

Online Test {For both Group ‘ X’ Trades (except Education Instructor Trade)} & Group Y’ {except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF(P), IAF(S) and Musician Trades}. Eligible candidates will be sent Provisional Admit Cards for phase – I of testing on their respective e-mail soon (which they will download & take colour printout & will carry the same to the examination centre on the day of online test as indicated on their respective Admit Cards) to appear in the Selection Test at the examination centres allotted to them. This provisional admit card can also be downloaded by the candidate under candidates login on CASB web portal All candidates in possession of provisional admit card will undertake Online Test as per their respective Group applied for, at Centres designated/allotted as per their admit card. Online test will be objective type and questions will be bilingual (English & Hindi) except for English paper. Online test for candidates opting for both Group X&Y shall be conducted in one sitting, on the same system. Candidates are to bring one blue/black pen and original valid ID proof along with them for Phase – I testing. A demonstration video on the conduct of online test is uploaded on the CASB web portal Details of the Test are as follows: – (a) Group ‘X’ Trades. Duration of the Online test will be 60 minutes and will comprise of English, Physics and Mathematics as per 10+2 CBSE syllabus. (b) Group ‘Y’ {Except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician} Trades. Duration of the Online test will be 45 minutes and will comprise of English as per 10+2 CBSE syllabus and Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA). (c) Both Group ‘X&Y’ Trades. Duration of the Online test will be 85 minutes and will comprise of English, Physics, and Mathematics as per 10+2 CBSE syllabus and Reasoning & General Awareness (RAGA). 15. CANDIDATES ARE TO QUALIFY IN EACH PAPER SEPARATELY IN THEIR RESPECTIVE GROUPS. The result of Phase-I will be uploaded on within 15 days from the date of online exams.

Phase – II

Soon after the declaration of the result of Phase-I test, all candidates shortlisted for Phase II will be sent a new admit card on their registered e-mail ID for phase – II test at an Airmen Selection Centre. This admit card for phase – II exam can also be downloaded online under candidate’s login on CASB web portal . Candidates have to report at the stipulated date and time for phase – II at the designated Airmen Selection Centre along with following documents:-

Adaptability Test – I (AT-I)-

AT-I will be administered to all candidates who pass the written test. The purpose is to assess suitability of a candidate for employment in the IAF which involves deployment in varied geographic terrain, weather and operational conditions.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT)- All candidates who pass the AT-I (except for Group Y (IAF/S) are to undergo PFT consists of a 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes and 30 seconds.

With effect from 01 Jan 2019, the time for completion of 1.6 Km run for Scheduled Tests and Rallies will be 7 minutes.

Candidates who qualify in 1.6 Kms run will be tested for 10 Push-ups, 10 Sit-ups and 20 squats to be completed within stipulated time to qualify in the PFT.

The PFT for Group Y IAF (Security) trade consists of 1.6 Km Run to be completed in 5 minutes and 40 seconds. Candidates who qualify in 1.6 Kms run will be tested for 08 Chin ups, 20 Push-ups and 20 Bent knee sit-ups to be completed within stipulated time to qualify in the PFT.

Relaxation in PFT timings

Candidates above 27 years of age will be given relaxation in PFT timing as per existing norms (applicable for Edn Inst and serving NCs (E) only). While conducting PFT (1.6 Km run) in high altitude areas, relaxation to timings are given as per the details mentioned below: –

  • Upto 5000 feet – Nil
  • 5001 to 9000 feet – 30 seconds
  • 9001 to 12000 feet – 120 seconds

Adaptability Test – II- All candidates who pass PFT will have to undergo AT-II as per the policy in vogue. The aim of the test is to select candidate who can adapt to the environment of the IAF and are able to adjust to the military way of life.

Medical Examination Candidates who qualify AT-II will be medically examined. Medical examination will be conducted by Air Force Medical Team as per IAF medical standards and existing policy in vogue. Medical Examination would also include Baseline Investigation of:

(a) HB, TLC, DLC

(b) Blood Sugar Fasting/PP

(c) Urea, Uric Acid and Creatinine

(d) Serum bilirubin, SGOT, SGPT

(e) Serum Cholesterol

(f) X-Ray chest PA view (Plain)

(g) ECG (R)

Candidates declared Medically Unfit can avail the option for Appeal Medical Board (AMB) against their Unfitness by depositing Rs. 40/- in a Government Treasury/RBI/SBI through Military Receivable Order (MRO).

The application for AMB along with original copy of MRO, photocopy of Unfitness Certificate and Postal Stamp worth Rs. 25/- affixed on a self-addressed envelope are to be submitted at MBC (Medical Board Centre) within three working days from the date of issue of Medical Unfitness Certificate.

INDIAN AIR FORCE AIRMAN Group X & Y Call Letters 2019

Receipt of Online Provisional Admit Card through e-mail is not to be considered as final authority for appearing in the written test. Candidates are liable to be debarred from appearing in the written test in case anomalies / irregularities/ incorrect information are observed during initial verification at the examination venue.


Publishing of AISL All India Select List (AISL)-

Is published twice a year separately for Scheduled Tests and Recruitment Rallies. AISL for selection tests during the period from January to June will be published on 31 October same year and for the period from July to December will be published soon. The same will be displayed at Airmen Selection Centres, IAF website and District Magistrates Office (for Recruitment Rallies only). Inclusion of name of candidates in the AISL depends upon performance and it does not guarantee automatic enrolment. Enrolment is strictly in order of merit in the AISL and subject to medical fitness, availability of vacancies, not exceeding the age as mentioned in the advertisement on date of enrolment and meeting other laid down eligibility criteria as and when called for enrolment. The validity of AISL will be 12 months from the date of display.
